Freshman Tim Coskren’s goal with 55 seconds left to play gave the visiting College of the Holy Cross Crusaders a come-from-behind victory over Bentley College Saturday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the John A. Ryan Arena.
Coskren, who scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game at one in the second period, was assisted by sophomore Brandon Doria and senior Tim Cantwell on the game-winner. The triumph improves Holy Cross to 1-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in MAAC action. Bentley falls to 0-5-1, 0-3-1 in conference play.
Bentley led 1-0 at the end of the first period as Mike Mulligan scored his team-leading third goal of the season at 3:31 on the power play.
The Crusaders tied the game at 17:15 of the second when Coskren found the back of the net on the power play off a pass from Brian Akashian.
The Falcons regained the lead at 7:21 of the third period when junior defenseman Matt Kowal scored on a blast from the point.
Bentley went on the power play at 7:43, looking for some insurance, but Crusader defenseman R.J. Irving blocked a shot by Falcon captain Steve Tobio and pushed the puck forward to Doria, who buried a wrist shot into the top of the net for a shorthanded goal at 9:35.
Holy Cross outshot Bentley 44-22, but Falcon senior Ray DeVincent was solid in goal, kicking aside 41 shots. Freshman Rick Massey earned the win between the posts for the Crusaders in his first collegiate start, making 20 saves.
Bentley returns to action next Friday when the Falcons host Army at 7:30 p.m. Holy Cross is back on the ice Friday when it plays host to American International College at 7 p.m.
