AIC Beats Holy Cross In OT, 4-3

American International freshman forward Trent Ulmer scored off his own rebound 1:51 into overtime to give the Yellowjackets a 4-3 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders.

The win raises AIC’s record to 2-5-1, 2-2-1 MAAC, while Holy Cross falls to 1-4-1, 0-3-1 MAAC.

The Yellowjackets jumped out the 1-0 lead 7:18 into the game when Olivier Gagnon scored off a rebound in front of the net.

The Crusaders answered back with two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead after one period of play. Tom Pawlak scored off a scramble in front of the net and then Pat Rissmiller scored with a blast from the blueline to give Holy Cross the lead.

In the third period AIC evened the score as Bryan Bassler gathered up a misplayed puck by goaltender Rick Massey and put it into the back of the net.

The Crusaders regained the lead 44 seconds later when Chris Smith blasted a shot from the point that Yellowjacket goaltender Chance Thede could not cover up and Jeff Dams put in the rebound.

Bassler scored his second of the game to tie the game for AIC before Ulmer won it in overtime.

Holy Cross hosts Army on Saturday and AIC will host Canisius for a pair next weekend.
