Black Knights Get Special Teams Going For Win Over Bentley

The visiting Army Black Knights scored three power-play goals on the way to a 5-2 victory over Bentley Friday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Ryan Rink.

After leading only 2-1 through most of the second period, the Knights (1-4, 1-2 MAAC) lit the lamp three times in a span of only 3:13 to put the game away.

Senior forward Mike Fairman scored on the power play at 19:38 of the second period, junior forward Tim Fisher netted an even-strength goal 25 seconds into period number three and junior defenseman Joe Carpenter made it 5-1 at 2:51 of the third with Army’s third goal with the extra skater.

Fisher finished with three points each for the Knights, while Carpenter chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Junior John DiGennaro scored Bentley’s first goal at 12:46 of the first period with the assist going to sophomore Marcus Willy. The tally tied the game at one after Army’s Derek Hines opened the scoring at 1:37.

Fisher scored his first goal of the game on the power play at 18:21 of the first period.

Freshman Mike Mulligan scored Bentley’s second goal on the power play as time expired in the third period. Mulligan knocked in his team-leading fourth goal of the season when he poked home the rebound of a shot by freshman Robert DeLong was also credited with an assist on the play.

Junior goalie Scott Hamilton made 27 saves and earned the win for Army, while senior Ray DeVincent stopped 44 shots between the pipes for Bentley (0-6-1, 0-4-1 MAAC).

Bentley is back on the ice Sunday night when Iona visits the Ryan Rink at 5:30 p.m. Army visits Holy Cross Saturday night in Worcester at 7 p.m.
