Denver skated away with a 4-1 WCHA victory over Michigan Tech Saturday evening at Magness Arena.
Denver got the only goal of the opening period as David Neale tipped a shot from Jesse Cook past Brian Rogers. DU netminder Wade Dubliewicz made two key saves in the opening 20 minutes, one on Brad Patterson off a feed from Matt Ulwelling and one on Jon Pittis.
After a scoreless second period, Matt Weber deflected a puck off his shaft falling down near the side of the goal at 3:39 of the third to stake the Pioneers to a 2-0 lead.
Tech got back in the game at 13:21 when freshman Frank Werner beat Dubliewicz between the legs. However, just 1:09 later, Chris Paradise took a pass from behind the net from Kelly Popadynetz and put it high over Brian Rogers to put the Pioneers back in front by two at 3-1.
DU sealed the win with an empty goal from Lukas Dora at 19:06.
Rogers made 17 saves in the loss, while Dubliewicz had 22 saves to pick up the win.
MTU, now 3-9-1 overall and 3-9-0 in the WCHA, is off next weekend. The Huskies return to action Dec. 1-2 when they host St. Cloud State. Denver (3-7-0, 3-5-0 WCHA) hosts Boston University and Providence next weekend.
