Providence, Denver Tie

Denver’s Greg Barber scored to tie the game after Stephen Wood gave Providence a 3-2 lead and the eighth-ranked Friars and the Pioneers skated to a 3-3 tie on Saturday at Magness Arena.

The Friars (7-2-3) took a 1-0 lead at 8:36 of the first period, when Mike
Robinson beat Pioneers netminder Wade Dublielewicz with a slap shot from the right faceoff circle.

Less than 30 seconds later, the Pioneers tied the game at 1.
Denver defenseman Bryan Vines took a shot from the blue line that deflected off a Providence defender and past PC netminder Boyd Ballard.

At the 15:05 mark, Denver (4-7-1) took a 2-1 lead on a Bjorn Engstrom goal. Denver’s Judd Stauss made a perfect pass to Engstrom, who then broke in one-on-one with Ballard and beat him with a low wrist shot.

Providence tied the game at the 16:40 mark of the second on a Matt Libby power-play goal. Libby fired a shot from the point that was blocked by a Denver defenseman. Libby gathered the puck and fired a second shot that slipped past Dublielewicz.

Wood gave the Friars a 3-2 lead at 12:58 of the third. Robinson won a faceoff in the Friars’ zone. Wood collected the puck, wrapped it around the net and stuffed it puck past Dublielewicz for his first collegiate goal.

Less than two minutes later, Denver tied the game at 3. Barber one-timed a Greg Keith feed and beat Ballard high on the glove side.
