Mercyhurst Races Out to Lead and Defeats Iona

The Mercyhurst Lakers stopped a two-game losing streak and extended Iona’s winless streak to three with a 6-1 win. The win vaulted the Lakers over the Gaels into second place in the MAAC.

Adam Tackaberry’s fifth goal of the season at 6:49 of the first period gave Mercyhurst a lead it would never relinquish.

Peter Rynshoven’s second goal of the season and Brad McDonald’s first of the season extended the Lakers’ lead to 3-0 after one period of play.

Tim Krueckl got the Gaels on the board at 1:47 of the second period, but Mercyhurst put the game away with three more tallies in the third.

Tackaberry scored his second of the game to make it 4-1 before Louis Goulet scored shorthanded and Mark Stamp finished the scoring to make a final of 6-1.

Mercyhurst improved its record to 6-3-2 (6-0-1 MAAC), and Iona fell to 6-6-2 (5-3-2 MAAC).
