Vermont exploded for eight unanswered goals, including five in a five-minute span in the third period, en route to a 10-2 victory over Holy Cross before a crowd of 3,603 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
Vermont outshot Holy Cross, 50-14, to improve to 6-4-0 overall, while the Crusaders fell to 2-9-1 with the loss. The victory marked the first time since 1994 that the Catamount hockey team has scored in double digits.
Vermont was paced by its first line combination of center Ryan Cox, left wing J.F. Caudron and right wing Graham Mink, which accounted for five goals and five assists. Cox led the way with four points, including a pair of shorthanded goals scored within a 25-second span at :56 and 1:21 in the third period. Caudron added a goal and two assists, while Mink scored twice and added one helper.
Vermont also got goals from Ryan Miller, Bryson Busniuk, Jerry Gernander, Jeff Miles and J.F. Gamelin.
The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the end of the first, and 2-2 seven minutes into the second stanza, before Vermont went on a scoring tear, building a 4-2 lead at the end of two periods.
Catamount goaltender Shawn Conschafter made 12 saves to register his first win of the season. Derek Cunha played the first 42:35 for Holy Cross, making 33 saves and allowing seven goals, before being relieved by Rick Massey who turned back seven shots and surrendered three goals.
