David Burleigh not only rebounded from a bad game on Friday, he dominated Saturday’s.

The Miami goaltender stopped all 25 shots and the defense in front of him allowed only a few quality scoring chances as Miami downed Ferris State 1-0.

The first period, while scoreless, provided Miami with a huge confidence boost. Ferris State was awarded a five-on-three power-play advantage for about a minute, but a pesky Miami defense and Burleigh kept the Bulldogs off the board.

The only goal of the game came in the second period. Jason Deskins took a pass in the slot from Leahy and lifted the puck over Phil Osear’s glove hand at 12:05. The scoring chance was created when Jason Basille and Rob Lightfoot collided in front of the net, allowing Deskins to slip free in the slot.

Burleigh kept the Bulldogs off the board for the reminder of the game, but the Ferris State offense couldn’t manage more than a few close chances through the second and third periods.

Osear was magnificent in net for the Bulldogs. Although he faced more shots than Burleigh, the quality scoring chances were hard to come by. The Bulldog defense was just as stingy as Miami’s, but all it took was one goal to spoil the evening for Ferris State.

Next weekend, Ferris State travels to Alaska-Fairbanks for a pair of games while Miami takes on Michigan State at Munn Ice Arena for two games.
