Duluth Overpowers St. Cloud State

The Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs beat the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday night at the National Hockey Center, 7-3.

St. Cloud State fell to 14-13-2 overall and 9-8-2 in the WCHA. The Bulldogs, who were ranked second in the nation last week, improved to 22-4-2 and 14-4-2.

First-year forward Roxanne Stang put the Huskies up 1-0 with an unassisted goal 22 seconds into the game.

The Bulldogs, though, scored the next four goals. Brittany Ralph of scored the game-winning goal at 14:28 in the first period.

Huskies junior Fiona McLeod scored her 12th goal of the season with an assist from first-year forward Ricki-Lee Doyle at 15:48 in the first period.

Both teams went scoreless in the second period, but the Bulldogs netted three of the four goals scored in the third period. Amanda Mathison netted her fifth goal of the season for the Huskies at 16:46. Gabrielle Adams and Bridget Davenport assisted on the power play goal.

Sophomore goalie Laura Gieselman made 48 saves on the night. Duluth outshot the Huskies 55-28.
