Alaska-Fairbanks scored three times in the second period en rout to a 5-2 victory over Miami.
The RedHawks lit the lamp less than three minutes into the game. Freshman Greg Hogeboom took a pass from Nick Jardine and beat Nanook netminder Preston McKay on a one-on-one break.
Miami continued to control the action until the 13:59 mark, when the Nanooks, who had dodged a bullet by killing a five-minute RedHawk power play, cashed in with a Cam Keith score.
The second period drastically altered the course of the game as the Nanooks rocked the RedHawks and netminder David Burleigh three times in the first 4:28 of the period.
Pat Hallett started off the Nanook onslaught, tallying the go-ahead goal as Miami was returning to full strength from a late first-period penalty at 1:49.
Lightning struck again at 2:10 when Bobby Andrews stole a pass in front of the net and put UAF ahead 3-1.
Keith capped off the Nanook eruption at 4:28, converting on a two-on-one break-away goal.
An Evan Cheverie slapshot at 10:46 in the second finally stopped the bleeding for Miami, but two penalties before the end of the period prevented the RedHawks from making any more of a run.
At 9:55 of the third period, the Nanooks rebuilt their lead to three goals as Keith completed the hat trick by slipping a shot behind David Bowen, who had replaced Burleigh.
The loss, which was Miamis second in a row, dropped the RedHawks to 16-13-2 and 13-9-1 in the CCHA. With Ohio State defeating Nebraska Omaha earlier in the evening, the Buckeyes jumped over the RedHawks and Mavericks to claim sole possession of third place in the CCHA standings while Miami and UNO slipped to a fourth-place tie.
UAF, which has not been swept on its home ice this season, raised its mark to 9-14-6 and 7-14-6 in the CCHA.
