Connecticut used three third period goals to hold-off American International College, 5-2. The loss, coupled with Sacred Heart’s 5-2 win over Bentley College drops the Yellow Jackets to eighth place in the Conference standings and just three points ahead of the winner of tonight’s Fairfield-Holy Cross tilt for the final Conference playoff spot.

The victory gave Connecticut Head Coach Bruce Marshall his 200th career triumph at his alma mater. Marshall (’85) has led the Huskies to a 200-140-28 (.582) clip in his 13 seasons behind the bench.

AIC trailed just 2-1 after two periods of play, but senior captain Michael Goldkind struck with what proved to be the gamewinner 7:13 into the third period.

The Yellow Jackets closed within one on an Aaron Arnett goal at 14:40.

However, the Huskies answered with a goal from sophomore Ron D’Angelo at 16:17, and an empty-netter from junior Anders Johnson at 19:53, to seal the victory.

UConn took a 1-0 lead in the first on freshman Eric Nelson’s goal at 9:00. AIC evened the score at 4:08 of the second on a goal by sophomore Bryan Bassler.

The Huskies answered just 1:12 later as junior Trent Landry netted a goal at 5:20 to put them up for good.

UConn freshman goaltender Jason Carey recorded 22 saves to preserve the victory. AIC senior netminder Chance Thede registered 36 saves in defeat.
