Superior Tops Archrival Stevens Point

Top-seeded Wisconsin-Superior beat archrival Wisconsin-Stevens Point 3-1 in the opening game of their NCHA semifinal series Friday night.

Kris Wilson, Colin Kendall and Bruce Leonard each scored goals for Superior.

Wilson scored his goal nearly 14 minutes into the first period on an assist from Ivan Prokic. Kendall’s shorthanded goal six minutes into the second period gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead.

Stevens Point rallied on Matt Interbartolo’s power-play goal at 18:40 of the second period. David Boehm and Mikhial Salienko assisted.

But Superior needed only 42 seconds to take a two-goal lead again when Leonard scored his first goal of the season. Jeff Glowa and Eric Pitoscia assisted.

Nathan Ziemski saved 22 shots for Superior. Bob Gould had 29 saves for Stevens Point.

The teams play again Saturday at 7:05 in Superior. If Superior wins or ties, the Yellow Jackets advance to the NCAA championships. If Stevens Point wins, the teams play a 20-minute mini-game.
