Rob McFeeters scored one goal and assisted on another and Mike Walsh made 18 saves as Clarkson defeated Cornell, 2-0.
The Golden Knights, who extended their winning streak to five straight games, improved their
record to 18-9-3 overall. With two games remaining in the regular season, Clarkson stands in second place in the ECAC, just one point behind league-leader St. Lawrence. Clarkson closes out the conference schedule at Vermont and Dartmouth next weekend.
Cornell, which lost its second straight game, falls to 12-10-5 overall, and is tied for third in the ECAC with a 10-7-3 conference mark. The Big Red host Rensselaer and Union in their regular season finale next weekend.
Clarkson scored one in the first and a second time in the third, while holding the Big Red scoreless to gain its fourth shutout of the season.
Just 57 seconds after the opening faceoff Clarkson took the lead when right wing Matt Poapst scored his team-high 15th goal of the season. Kevin O’Flaherty set-up the play sending a behind-the-net pass to Poapst, who one-timed a quick shot at the top of the crease.
After a scoreless second period, McFeeters iced the Knights’ first win over the Big Red in six games, scoring his 12th goal of the season on a wrist shot from the left circle.
Clarkson outshot Cornell, 25-18. Matt Underhill made 23 stops for the Big Red. The Knights went 0-of-3 on the power play, while Cornell was scoreless in its lone man-advantage opportunity.
