The Miami Redhawks recorded only their fourth road victory against Lake Superior State with a 3-0 win over the Lakers Friday night at the Taffy Abel Arena.

In the CCHA standings, LSSU had a chance to move ahead of 11th place Bowling Green, which is playing outside the league this weekend; however, the loss to the Redhawks deprived them of that opportunity.

Miami took the lead early when Joe Pomaranski netted a power-play goal at the 3:36 mark of the first period. Derek Edwardson set up Pomaranski’s fourth goal of the season.

The Redhawks went up 2-0 when Greg Hogeboom broke out of their zone and scored a shorthanded, unassisted goal at 7:36 in the second.

The Lakers replaced starting goaltender Matt Violin at the start of the third period with freshman Terry Denike.

Violin made 18 saves before leaving the game.

With less than seven minutes remaining in the game, the Redhawks scored their third goal of the night. Pomaranski got his second of the evening off a pass from Nick Jardine.

LSSU suffered its sixth shutout this season and has gone scoreless in the last eight periods of play.

Miami improved to 10-11-2 overall and 7-8-2 in the CCHA. The win moved Miami to eighth in the conference, where it is tied with Notre Dame. Lake Superior State fell to 6-16-1 overall and 3-13-1 in the CCHA.

The two teams will wrap up their regular-season series Saturday night. Faceoff is at 7:05 p.m.
