Sacred Heart Downs Army In AHA Opener

Pierre-Luc O’Brien scored two power-play goals as Sacred Heart netted three tallies in all with the man advantage to skate past Army, 4-1, Saturday night at Milford Ice Pavilion in Milford, Conn.

The Black Knights (2-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Atlantic Hockey) suffered their first loss of on the year. The Pioneers (1-1-0/1-0-0) picked up their first win of the young season.

Army was unable to cash in on five power-play opportunities in the first period, while Sacred Heart capitalized on its first man-advantage of the night to jump on top early. O’Brien slid a shot from the slot area between the legs of Brad Roberts to draw first blood and put the hosts on top at 7:05 of the opening session.

O’Brien added his second of the night at 6:44 of the middle stanza before Kalen Wright increased Sacred Heart’s efficiency to 3-for-5 on the power play at 9:03. Defenseman Scott Marchesi notched his first career goal at 12:55 to push the Pioneers’ lead to 4-0.

Freshman Aaron Anderson of Army spoiled Kevin LaPointe’s shutout at 14:32 of the third period on assists from Casey Bickley and Chris Garceau.

O’Brien, last season’s “Rookie of the Year” in Atlantic Hockey finished with four points on the evening. Alexandre Parent picked up three assists as well.

Brad Roberts made 23 saves in goal for Army, while LaPointe recorded 29 saves for Sacred Heart.
