With the outcome already decided, the only drama left in the final minutes of Union’s game against Connecticut Sunday was whether Dutchmen forward Jordan Webb would become the school’s all-time Division I leading scorer.
Webb waited until the final seconds to make history.
He collected an assist on Joel Beal’s goal with 44 seconds left to give him 105 career points as the Dutchmen shut out the Huskies, 4-0, at Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn.
Webb passed Chris Ford on the Union’s Division I scoring list. Ford scored 104 points from 1993-97.
“I’m happy for him,” Union coach Nate Leaman said.
Webb has 50 goals and 55 assists in 121 career games. He is tied for 11th with Don Marshall on Union’s all-time overall scoring list, which includes players from its Division III years. Terry Campbell is Union’s top scorer with 170 points.
Appropriately, the record-breaking point came with Beal on the ice. The duo have been a force on the same line for four years.
“The D-man rimmed it around the boards,” Webb said. “Casey Ftorek made a good play knocking it down with his glove. He chipped it out into the middle as he took the hit. I just got it, and sent it down to Bealer at the side of the net, and he was able to put it in.
“It’s kind of fitting that I’ve been taking passes from him at the side of the net for the last three-plus years. I’m glad he could actually score that goal.”
Playing the final game of their nine-game road trip, the Dutchmen (9-9-1) took a 1-0 lead on Scott Seney’s goal early in the second period. Jonathan Poirier made it 2-0 with a power-play goal late in the second period. Scott Brady scored Union’s first shorthanded goal of the year 3:42 into the third period.
“It was a game where we got the first 14 shots on net,” Leaman said. “Their goaltender [Scott Tomes] was playing extremely well. It took us a little while to break it open. But I was pleased with the way the guys played. We had possession of the puck most of the game, which was key, I thought.”
Goalie Kris Mayotte made 26 saves for Union before giving way to third-stringer Dan Tatar with 1:17 left in the game.

The Dutchmen return to Messa Rink for the first time in two months when they host Vermont in an ECACHL showdown Friday at 7 p.m. The two teams are tied for second place, one point behind league-leading Harvard. … Union was 4-4-1 on its nine-game road trip. … Beal and Poirier also had an assist each. Beal has 95 career points.
