After falling behind 1-0 early in the second period, the Princeton women’s hockey team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Dartmouth 3-1 on Friday night at Thompson Arena. Three Tigers scored in the game and junior Kim Pearce had two assists. The win was the first for Princeton (2-0-1, 1-0 ECACHL) at Dartmouth (1-1, 0-1 ECACHL) since the 2001-02 season.
After a scoreless first period, Dartmouth broke onto the scoreboard when Caroline Ethier fired home a shot from the slot off a feed from Shannon Bowman.
Princeton answered with a power play goal later in the period. With two Dartmouth players in the box, Princeton worked the puck around the Big Green’s triangle defense. Just one second after the first penalty expired, Princeton found the back of the net when sophomore Marykate Oakley scored from the left circle. Assists on the goal were credited to Pearce and junior Laura Watt.
The teams began the third period knotted at one apiece, but Princeton went ahead for good just 33 seconds into the final frame. While shorthanded, senior Tarah Clark scored an unassisted goal for the Tigers to take a 2-1 lead. They added an insurance goal at 4:36 of the period when Annie Greenwood scored her first collegiate goal with assists going to senior Chrissie Norwich and Pearce.
Princeton outshot the Big Green, 36-18, and went 1-for-5 with the man advantage. Dartmouth ended up 0-4 on the power play. Senior goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel made 17 saves for the win.
The Tigers plays at Harvard on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Big Green plays Quinnipiac at Thompson Arena.
