Up-and-coming Boston College started off strong against Ivy power No. 8 Dartmouth Tuesday night, but the Eagles never recovered from two quick Big Green goals in a 3-2 defeat.
BC (3-2-3) struck 1:49 into the first period against the Big Green (3-1) as sophomore Sarah Feldman scored on a power-play goal. But Dartmouth would not be defeated so easily as Danielle Grundy scored her second goal of the season to tie up the game three minutes later at 1-1. Dartmouth’s Carrie Thompson scored her second goal this season just 30 seconds later to put the Big Green up 2-1.
Senior forward Tiffany Hagge scored Dartmouth’s third unanswered goal at 1:10 into the second period. Halfway through the second period, Feldman scored her second goal of the game and fifth goal of the season on another power play.
The Eagles went 2 for 7 on the power play and held Dartmouth to 0 for 4 on their power play attempts. The Big Green’s penalty kill proved strong down the stretch though, silencing three BC opportunities in the third period.
BC’s Alison Quandt had 21 saves on the night including seven in the final period. Dartmouth’s Kate Lane stopped 24 of 26 shots.
BC will go on the road on Saturday, Nov. 12 as they take on Yale at 1 p.m. The Eagles will return home to conference play next Saturday, Nov. 19 as they take on the Connecticut in their first meeting of the season.
