Bentley junior goaltender Ray Jean made 34 saves as Bentley and Army skated to a 1-1 tie in Atlantic Hockey action Friday night at the John. A. Ryan Skating Arena. With the tie Army remained unbeaten in its last four games and improved to 2-7-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the AHA, while Bentley moved to 4-5-2 and 2-1-2.
Bentley scored the game’s first goal midway through the second period. Senior defenseman Josh Chase dumped the puck into the Army zone and freshman Anthony Canzoneri beat Army goaltender Brad Roberts to the puck behind the net. Canzoneri found Bentley freshman Dain Prewitt open in front. An Army defenseman slid in front of the net to block Prewitt’s shot to no avail.
Army appeared to even the game minutes later, but the goal was taken back as the Black Knight player was judged to have batted the puck out of the air with his hand and into the net.
The game headed to the third period with Bentley holding a one-goal lead, but Army took control of the game. Finally, after ten minutes of domination, the Black Knights found the equalizer. Sophomore Chase Podsaid took control of the puck in his own end and rushed up ice along the right side boards. He carried the puck to the net and chipped a shot past Jean to even the game with 9:50 to play.
At the time of the goal, Army held a 7-0 advantage in shots on net and an 18-1 lead in shots attempted in the third period. The Black Knights continued to carry play for the remainder of the period, holding Bentley to just one shot on goal in the third.
The game returned to balance in overtime as each team had chances; Army out shot Bentley 5-4 in the extra session, but neither team could score. Jean played well in goal for Bentley, surrendering just the one goal, while Roberts made 26 saves in goal for Army.
Bentley hosts Army again on Saturday night; the game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
