Samuels, Dartmouth Shut Down Golden Knights

The Dartmouth men’s hockey team blanked the Clarkson Golden Knights 4-0 in Cheel Arena. Big Green goalie Sean Samuels recorded his first career shutout, getting 23 saves and his first win of the season.

Dartmouth is now 4-5 overall and in the league while the Knights fall to 9-4-1, 5-2-1 ECACHL.

The Green scored first when Connor Shields struck at 16:57 in the first period. Kevin Swallow worked the puck behind the Clarkson nets, passing to Shields as the freshman wrapped the puck around the right side of the post for his second goal of the season. Ryan Bellows also assisted.

The Big Green added another goal at 16:38. Eric Przepiorka stole the puck in the Clarkson end, passing up to Tanner Glass, who beat the Clarkson defender for his third goal of the season.

Mike Ouellette added another for Dartmouth. Action in front of the net allowed the Dartmouth captain to get several shots on goal before finally sneaking one past Clarkson netminder Kyle McNnulty. David Jones and Nick Johnson assisted.

Ouellette added an insurance goal with an empty-net strike with less than two minutes left in the contest. Ben Lovejoy got the helper.

Dartmouth outshot the Golden Knights 28-22, and it was the second time this year the Big Green has kept its opponent from scoring a power-play goal.

McNulty had 24 saves on the evening and is now 6-2, while Samuels improved to 1-2 on the season.

Dartmouth will be back in action on December 10, hosting Boston University in a 7:00 pm game at Thompson Arena. Clarkson will play Bowling Green on Friday, December 9.
