North Dakota Pounds St. Cloud

Behind a three-point effort from 2007 Hobey Baker winner Ryan Duncan, the North Dakota Fighting Sioux stopped the St. Cloud Huskies 6-2 Saturday night, getting a split in the key WCHA series.

The Fighting Sioux scored three goals in the first period to wrap up the contest.

Rylan Kaip scored 13 seconds into the first period against Huskies’ netminder Dan Dunn. The Huskies climbed back into the game, tying it on sophomore Ryan Lasch’s 17th goal of the season at 12:07.Lasch now has 32 points this season, the most points of any Division I.

Duncan scored his first of the night to make it 2-1 16:48, and Matt Watkins netted the eventual game-winner for the Sioux at 18:24.

In the second period, the Huskies cut the lead to one when freshman forward Aaron Marvin posted his third goal of the season on a power play. The point snapped a nine-game scoring drought for Brocklehurst.

The Sioux quickly struck back, scoring three unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. T.J. Oshie, who sat Friday’s game due for breaking team rules, scored at 8:57 on a power play and was assisted by Duncan. Duncan added his second goal of the night at 15:02, and Chris VandeVelde scored at 16:11 to close out the scoring in the contest.

The Huskies outshot Sioux 31-30, but Jean-Philipe Lamoureux was strong in net for the Sioux. Dunn got the loss, and was pulled for sophomore Jase Weslosky after the first period.
