Kessel scores again as Minnesota sweeps Clarkson

The No. Minnesota Golden Gophers scored a goal in the second period and two in the third to earn a 3-0 win over No. 7 Clarkson, today, in Potsdam, N.Y., sweeping their opening series on the road.

Freshman forward Amanda Kessel got her third goal on the weekend when she scored an unassisted goal at 16:39 in the second, threading it to the right corner and past Lauren Dahm’s right shoulder.

Anne Schleper added an insurance goal at 8:52 in the third when she capitalized on a power play, getting a rebound on a Kelly Terry shot. Megan Bozek added to the lead when she scored a power-play goal at 14:40 to put the game at 3-0. Bozek ripped a shot from the right point, while Kessel added the single assist for her sixth point of the weekend.

Alyssa Grogan recorded a shutout with 18 saves, the sixth of her career.

The Gophers will host an exhibition game on Friday against the Minnesota Whitecaps and follow with a game against Wayne State at 2 p.m. on Saturday (10/9). Minnesota then opens the Western Collegiate Hockey Association season, Oct. 15-16 when North Dakota comes to town.
