After its big win over Yale the previous night, Union kept on rolling, beating Brown, 4-2.

The Dutchmen continued their dominance on the power play, scoring their first goal 13:44 into the first period after a tripping penalty against Brown defenseman Marc-Antoine Carrier.

John Simpson scored the goal for Union after a backhanded feed from Wayne Simpson, his brother, at the blue line. With possession of the puck, Simpson let it rip, giving Union the early 1-0 lead.

“I think it was huge for momentum. Like I was saying our power play did a good job, [John Simpson] got that shot through and Keith made the saves when he had to.”

Brown tied the game up to start the second period. Less than 20 seconds into the frame, Jack Maclellan was fed the puck near the net and rifled it in.

Union killed any momentum the Bears gained from that goal four minutes later when Presizniuk scored the first of his two goals on the day.

Presizniuk scored the goal after forcing a turnover in the neutral zone. Skating down the right side of the ice, Presizniuk had an open shot at the net and flung it in for the unassisted goal.

“I noticed there were a couple of guys with me,” said Presizniuk, “Hatch did a good job driving to the net and I just wanted to get it on net, if not in, then a rebound there for Hatch.”

“I was real happy he took the shot,” said Union coach Nate Leaman. “Sometimes you want your best players to be greedy a little bit. Fortunately for us, he was greedy with that puck. Part of that is leadership, part of that is a guy that wants to shoot it, that wants to step up and make the big play.”

Union tallied two more goals before the period ended for a big 4-1 lead.

The first goal came after Justin Pallos received the puck from Andrew Buote and shot it into the back of the net.

After the goal Brown tried to change its fortune by switching goalie Marco De Flippo with Mike Clemente. Clemente, however, was unable to provide any more resistance, giving up a goal a minute after coming in. Presizniuk scored the goal for Union with the assist going to Matt Hatch.

“I think the past three weekends, [Presizniuk] has been absolutely phenomenal for us,” captain Brock Matheson said, “Previous to this weekend, he wasn’t getting the points that maybe he deserved, but this weekend it was great that he was able to get a few for his confidence.”

Clemente settled down in the third to give Brown a chance to get back into the game. Unfortunately for the Bears, they were only able to produce one more goal in the game.

The goal was scored nine minutes into the period when Bobby Farnham received a perfect pass while streaking to the net. After some nice moves with the stick, Farnham swiped the puck just past Kinkaid’s outstretched skate to put it into the net.

With the win and Yale’s loss to Renssellaer, Union move within a point of first place.

Next week, Union travels to face Princeton and Quinnipiac while Brown returns home to play Harvard on Wednesday.
