Johnson nets game-winner as Gustavus Adolphus edges Wis.-River Falls

In a tight contest between two teams that have faced each other a lot, Gustavus Adolphus edged Wisconsin-River Falls, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.

Gustavus got the first goal at 5:15 of the first period on a shot by from Melissa Doyle. However, River Falls got the equalizer late in the first when Judy Daleiden deflected it in at 17:41.

Leah Johnson got what proved to be the game-winner at 11:01 of the second with her fourth goal of the season

Both goaltenders were strong, as Gustavus’ Lindsey Hibbard stopped 21 shots and Gillian McDonald made 22 saves.

Gustavus will next face Elmira in the NCAA semifinals on March 15 in Superior, Wis.
