D’Agostino, Cornell finish off road sweep of Princeton

Nick D’Agostino scored twice and Greg Miller tallied three assists as Cornell completed a road sweep of its best-of-three ECAC Hockey first-round playoff series with a 4-2 victory over Princeton on Saturday.

Will MacDonald got Princeton on the board first, tallying the only goal in the first period. But Cornell began the next two stanzas with a furious forecheck, getting early goals by Brian Ferlin in the second and D’Agostino in the third. The Big Red extended the lead to 3-1 at 5:57, as D’Agostino tallied his second goal of the period on the power play.

The Tigers thought they had cut the lead to one with 9:27 left in the game, as a point shot by Alec Rush found the back of the net. But after review, it was determined by officials that the puck deflected off of a high stick, and the goal was disallowed. Andrew Calof brought the Tigers to within one at 19:15 while Mike Condon was pulled for the extra attacker. But Joel Lowry tallied the empty netter at 19:47 to put the game away for Cornell.

Goaltender Andy Iles made 20 saves in the win for Cornell, and Condon made 29 saves for Princeton.
