Sullivan stops 37 as Elmira blanks Bowdoin

Elmira goalie Lauren Sullivan made 37 saves to earn her 10th shutout of the season in a 4-0 defeat of Bowdoin in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.

Despite being outshot in the first period, Elmira had the better chances, including a post by Taylor Steadman. It looked like Bowdoin would escape, but at 18:44, Erin Weston lifted a backhand over Bowdoin goalie Kayla Lessard’s glove.

Buoyed by the momentum, Elmira struck again early in the second when Brooke Wilgosh fired it in from the top of the right circle.

Bowdoin’s best chance came late in the second when Madeline Lane hit the crossbar.

Elmira put the game out of reach early in the third when Madison Johnston one-timed Samantha Curk’s pass in at just 3:33.
Ashley Ryan added the final goal at 17:51 from the crease.

Elmira will face Gustavus Adolphus in the Frozen Four on March 15 in Superior, Wis.
