PRINCETON, N.J. — Princeton and No. 8 Quinnipiac battled to a 1-1 tie Tuesday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Goaltender Kimberly Newell stopped 34 shots for Princeton, including 16 saves in the first period as the Tigers were outshot 17-8, and five saves in the extra session.
The Bobcats’ only goal came at 14:26 of the first, as Shiann Darkangelo rifled a shot that deflected off the shoulder of Newell and in. Lindsey West and Kelly Babstock began the rush from the defensive zone, feeding Darkangelo just inside the blue line.
At 12:55 of the third, 18 seconds after the Tigers had just been dealt a five-minute major penalty, Cristin Shanahan took a feed from Cassidy Tucker at center ice and skated in all alone, beating Chelsea Laden stick side to tie the game.
Laden finished with 26 saves for the Bobcats, including two back-to-back saves in the overtime session to preserve the tie.
