PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Tommy Marchin put home a rebound in overtime to give Brown a 4-3 victory over No. 1 Providence on Sunday.

Despite the loss, the Friars won the Mayor’s Cup series on goal differential after the teams split their seasons series. Providence won 4-1 on Dec. 10.

Andrew Doane, Josh McArdle and Charlie Corcoran each scored his first goal of the season for the Bears (4-8-3).

It was Brown’s first win over a top-ranked team since beating Quinnipiac in the 2013 ECAC Hockey semifinals.
