PRINCETON, N.J. — Rensselaer and Princeton skated to a 3-3 tie on Thursday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Engineers’ Jesper Öhrvall opened the scoring with just under two minutes remaining in the first period, as Viktor Liljegren took a shot from the circle that settled in the crease long enough for Öhrvall to poke home the rebound.
After Princeton’s Mike Ambrosia scored on the power play for the only goal in the second stanza, Max Véronneau rifled a bottle-popper for his sixth goal of the season at 5:11 of the third to give the Tigers a one-goal lead.
At 6:12, the Engineers answered back with a power-play goal of their own as Jared Wilson fired a blast from the point assisted by Jimmy DeVito and Riley Bourbonnais.
Véronneau regained the lead for Princeton at 10:48, as Ryan Kuffner collected his second helper of the game with a feed to Alex Riche, who backhanded a beautiful pass to Véronneau for the one-time shot.
Rensselaer tied the game for good with 3:18 remaining on a controversial goal by Bourbonnais, as Zach Schroeder appeared to enter the zone offsides. The officials gathered for a discussion and it was determined that Princeton could not challenge the play because they had already used their timeout. The goal was allowed to stand for Bourbonnais’ 13th goal of the year.
Colton Phinney made 36 saves for the Tigers, including all six shots in the overtime period.
Jason Kasdorf made 20 saves for the Engineers.
