Nowick’s three-point game lifts Northern Michigan past No. 18 Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. — Darren Nowick scored twice, and Atte Tolvanen made 41 saves in Northern Michigan’s 3-1 upset victory over No. 18 Minnesota State on Friday.

Dominik Shine broke a 1-1 tie in the second period for the Wildcats (8-7-6, 6-5-4 WCHA).

Nowick put Northern Michigan ahead in the first period and added an empty-net goal in the third. He also assisted on Shine’s goal.

Brett Knowles scored a short-handed goal for the Mavericks (10-7-4, 9-2-4), who got 17 saves from Jason Pawloski.
