MINNEAPOLIS — Hudson Fasching and No. 20 Minnesota are back on top of the Big Ten.
Fasching scored 57 seconds into overtime to give the Gophers a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Michigan on Friday and a split of the teams’ two-game series.
Minnesota exited the series in the same position it entered: with a one-point lead over the Wolverines, but now with just four games to play.
Vinni Lettieri and Leon Bristedt also scored for Minnesota (17-14, 12-4 Big Ten), which got 23 saves from Eric Schierhorn.
Tyler Motte scored his national-best 29th goal of the season with 2:39 remaining to send the game to overtime for Michigan (20-5-5, 10-3-3).
Cooper Marody also scored and Steve Racine stopped 24 shots for the Wolverines.
