Parker Mackay scored 105 seconds into overtime to lift host No. 6 Minnesota Duluth over No. 3 Minnesota, 4-3.
The goals seemed to come in bunches in the showcase semifinal of the Icebreaker. The Gophers were seeking their first win over the Bulldogs since the 2014 Icebreaker game, but came up short, despite 40 saves from goalie Eric Schierhorn. Mikey Anderson put the Bulldogs in front 1-0 at 7:56 on a power play tally.
Tommy Novak answered at 13:26 of the second, and then Scott Reedy scored on a power play at 18:16 of the second to put Minnesota in front, 2-1.
However, just 23 seconds into the third, Riley Tufte answered on a power play for Duluth. Jack Ramsey put Minnesota back in front at 3:09, but sophomore phenom Joey Anderson answered at 3:49 with a backhand five-hole to tie it at 3-3.
The two teams then clamped down defensively for the rest of regulation before a crowd of 7,203 at Amsoil Arena in Duluth, Minn. Hunter Shepard made 18 saves for Duluth.

Michigan Tech 6, No. 16 Union 3
Michigan Tech rode a three-goal first period to a 6-3 win over Union in the opening game of the Icebreaker Tournament in Duluth, Minn.
Mitch Meek put the Huskies on the board just 3:29 into the game, and Dane Birks scored at 12:59 on a power play to make it 2-1, Huskies. Alex Gilles assisted on two of the first-period goals.
Joel L’Esperance scored what ended up being the game-winner at 6:15 of the second splitting the Union defense and driving the net on a two-on-none and knocking in a pass from Gavin Gould. After Union scored twice in the first 5:46 of the third to pull within one, 4-3, L’Esperance reinstated the two-goal lead with a strike at 9:22, and Jake Jackson added an empty-netter at 19:36 to seal the win.
Goalie Packey Munson, making his first start in two years after sitting out last year at Denver following transferring from Vermont at the conclusion of his freshman year, looked sharp, making 35 saves in the win.
Atlantic Hockey
Army 5, American International 1
Dominic Franco, Tyler Pham and Michael Wilson each recorded a goal and two assists as Army defeated AIC, 5-1.
Pham scored 13 seconds into the game as Army scored three of its goals in the first period, ending the scoring with a power-play goal at 16:08 from Alex Wilkinson.
AIC’s Patrik Demel ruined the shutout bid of Cole Bruns (29 saves) at 2:10 of the third. AIC’s Zackarias Skog made 16 saves in the loss.
Niagara 4, Robert Morris 3 (OT)
Alex Tonge scored for Robert Morris at 18:33 of the third to complete a rally from a two-goal deficit in the last five minutes, but Niagara regrouped and Tanner Lornsnes scored the game-winner for the Purple Eagles at 2:25 of OT. Brady Ferguson scored two power-play goals for Robert Morris, including the goal at 14:53 that started the rally. Guillaume Thérien made 31 saves in Niagara coach Jason Lammer’s first NCAA win.
Big Ten
No. 19 Ohio State 3, No. 12 Wisconsin 2
Mason Jobst scored at 18:44 of the third period as Ohio State twice rallied from a goal down to defeat No. 12 Wisconsin, 3-2, on the road.
Jobst also scored the Buckeyes’ first goal at 14:31 of the second, tying it after Trent Frederic had given Wisconsin the 1-0 lead at 7:38 of the second. Freddy Gerard assisted on both of Jobst’s goals. Tarek Baker scored on a penalty shot at 10:22 of the third to put Wisconsin back in front, but John Wiitala tied it at 15:00 of the third. Sean Romeo made 18 saves in the win, while Kyle Hayton made 21 saves in the home loss at the Kohl Center.
No. 8 Notre Dame 5, Alabama-Huntsville 3
Dennis Gilbert’s goal at 18:30 of the second sparked Notre Dame, which got two goals from Jake Evans in the third period to rally from a 3-2 deficit and defeat host Alabama-Huntsville, 5-3.
Evans’ second goal was a shorthanded strike with 18 seconds left in the game to seal the win. Evans also assisted on Bobby Nardella’s goal just 12 seconds into the second that opened the scoring.
Tyler Poulsen had two goals for the Chargers, including one at 7:17 that gave Alabama-Huntsville a 3-2 lead. Jordan Gross and Andrew Oglevie each record two assists for the Irish, and Cale Morris made 25 saves in the win. Jordan Uhelski tallied 35 saves for the Chargers.

Clarkson 2, No. 10 Penn State 1
Kelly Summers’ goal at 13:24 of the second proved to be the game-winner as Clarkson upset No. 10 Penn State, 2-1. Terrance Amorosa recorded two assists for the Golden Knights, who also got a goal from Marly Quince.
Brandon Brio scored the only goal for the Nittany Lions at 14:40 of the second on a power play. Jake Kielly snared 38 saves in the win, while Peyton Jones made 19 saves in the road loss.
Colgate 2, Merrimack 1
Jared Cockrell’s goal at 14:43 of the first period held up as the game-winner in a tight defensive game as Colgate edged Merrimack, 2-1.
Cockrell got the puck when Willie Brooks’ shot from the point hit a Merrimack defenseman and deflected to him. Mike Panowyk had scored at 7:05 of the first. Ludvig Larsson scored at 11:57 of the second to halve the Raiders’ lead, but Colton Point shut the door the rest of the way, making nine of his 38 saves in the third period. Drew Vogler had 17 saves for the Warriors.
Michigan 3, St. Lawrence 1
Quinn Hughes’ power-play goal at 4:16 of the second provide to be the game-winner and Jack LaFontaine made 23 saves to lead Michigan past St. Lawrence on the road. Michigan scored in each period. Tony Calderone got Michigan on the board at 12:44 of the first on a power play. Alex Gilmour scored just 1:26 after Hughes to pull St. Lawrence within one, but Alex Roos sealed the win for the Wolverines at 10:10 of the third. The win was the first for Michigan under new coach Mel Pearson.
Hockey East
New Hampshire 4, No. 5 UMass Lowell 3
Shane Eiserman scored with just 14 seconds left in the game, snapping a tie exactly one minute after Jake Kamrass’ power-play goal had tied it for Lowell in New Hampshire’s 4-3 upset win over the fifth-ranked River Hawks in Lowell.
Lowell took the first lead of the game on a goal from Connor Wilson at 6:06 of the first, but New Hampshire got goals from Marcus Vela and Frankie Cefalu just 55 seconds apart midway through the second to take their first lead. Daniel Tirone made 20 saves for New Hampshire in the win, while Tyler Wall had 25 saves in the loss.
No. 14 Quinnipiac 1, No. 13 Boston College 1

Jacob Tortora scored on a power play for host Boston College at 15:59 of the third to get the Eagles a 1-1 tie with Quinnipiac. The Bobcats recorded their goal at 15:10 of the second from Alex Whelan. The goalies were both strong, with BC’s Joseph Woll making 28 saves and Quinnipiac’s Andrew Shortridge stopping 25 shots.
No. 20 Northeastern 7, Sacred Heart 3
Northeastern got two goals in the first period and two goals in the first 10:47 of the second to roll to a 7-3 home win over Sacred Heart.
Grant Jozefek notched two goals, including the game’s first, and Matt Filipe also scored two goals, including the game-winner at 10:47 of the second off a rebound of a shot by Adam Gaudette, who finished with two assists.
Freshman Zach Solow busted out for a goal and three assists in his first NCAA game, and Dylan Sikura chipped in two assists. Ryan Ruck made 19 saves in the win. Stephen Hladin had a goal and assist for Sacred Heart.
Maine 4, Connecticut 3 (OT)
Nolan Vesey scored an unassisted goal just 28 seconds into overtime to lift host Maine to a 4-3 win over Hockey East foe Connecticut.
Maine had a one-goal lead three times in the game, but UConn rallied each time, including Jeff Wight scoring on a power play with just 12 seconds left in the game to force overtime. Rob McGovern made 35 saves in the win, while Adam Huska had 29 saves for UConn. Benjamin Freeman had a goal and assist for the Huskies.
Vermont 3, Colorado College 0
Vermont scored the only goal it would need with a power-play strike by Ross Colton with three seconds left in the first period that sailed over goalie Alex Leclerc’s left shoulder following a draw won by Derek Lodermeier.
Vermont rode the momentum from that, recording an unassisted even-strength goal from Owen Grant just 51 seconds into the second followed by a power-play goal from Christan Evers at 3:16 of the second to down visiting Colorado College. Stefanos Lekkas made 33 saves in the win, while Leclerc made 24 saves in the 3-0 loss.

No. 11 Providence 3, Miami 1
A neutral zone turnover early in the third proved costly as the Friars’ Josh Wilkins stole it and took a stride over the blue line and ripped a snap shot top corner glove side for a 3-0 lead in an eventual 3-1 road win.
Miami’s Kiefer Sherwood appeared to have gotten that goal back just 22 seconds later on a delayed penalty call, but the goal was waved off due goaltender interference, as he bumped Providence goalie Hayden Hawkey.
Miami was unable to regroup from that. The RedHawks pulled goalie Ryan Larkin (27 saves) during a last-minute power play for a 6-on-4 advantage, but couldn’t get a goal.
No. 20 Western Michigan 6, Ferris State 1
Wade Allison scored two goals and added an assist, Colt Conrad added a goal and three assists, and Dawson DiPietro and Hugh McGing each recorded two assists as Western Michigan rolled past Ferris State.
Tyler Dorantes spoiled Broncos goalie Ben Blacker’s shutout bid (33 saves) with a quick strike from the left point off a faceoff with 1:32 left in the game.

Lake Superior State 5, Northern Michigan 3
Diego Cuglietta scored two goals, including what turned out to be the game-winner at 3:18 of the third, and Lake Superior tallied four power-play goals in a 5-3 defeat of Northern Michigan. Cuglietta opened the scoring at 6:27 of the first on a power play.
Lukas Kaelble had three assists for the Lakers in the win, who got 33 saves from Nick Kossoff. Robbie Payne had two power-play goals for Northern Michigan, while Troy Loggins chipped in two assists in the losing effort.
No. 7 North Dakota 1, Alaska Anchorage 1 OT
Visiting North Dakota survived a spirited effort by Alaska Anchorage, which forced overtime with a late third-period goal, but was unable to take advantage of a 94-second, 5-on-3 power play in the 1-1 tie at Sullivan Arena.
The Seawolves tied the game at 1-1 when Jordan Xavier scored with 1:15 left in regulation, North Dakota’s only game came midway through the second period on a tally by Johnny Simonson.
UAA goalie Olivier Mantha was superb, recording 35 saves as UND out shot the hosts by a 23-6 margin over the second and third periods before holding on for the road win in overtime.
No. 17 Air Force 3, Alaska 2
Falcons goalie Billy Christopoulos made 32 saves to help Air Force hold off upset-minded Alaska, 3-2, in Fairbanks.
Air Force forward Brady Tomlak scored with 15:12 left in the third period for the eventual game-winner. His tally answered a tying goal, 2-2, by the Nanooks’ Zach Frye only 11 seconds into the third.
It was Air Force’s first win in Fairbanks and the program’s first in the state of Alaska since 1974. The Falcons never trailed Friday. Tomlak and Matt Koch each recorded a goal and assist.
Independent
Arizona State 5, UMass 3
Goals by UMass’ Marco Bozzo and Jake McLaughlin less than two minutes apart put a scare into the host Sun Devils before Dylan Hollman clinched the 5-3 nonconference victory with an empty-netter with 18 seconds left.
ASU pulled ahead 4-1 on a goal by Joel Raats with 6:03 remaining in the third that was assisted by Hollman and Louie Rowe, who finished with three assists. Rowe’s first came on the opening tally, the second made on Raats’ eventual game-winner and the final one recorded on Hollman’s empty-netter.
Ryan Wischow recorded 25 saves in the loss while Arizona State’s Joey Daccord made 18.
