Colorado College 3, Alaska-Anchorage 2
Shooting was severely polarized in the contest as the Tigers outshot Alaska-Anchorage by a margin of 41 to 18 and kept Alaska-Anchorage to two shots in the third period. Colorado College goalie Alex Leclerc registered 16 saves. Although the parity was obvious, it did not reflect on the scoreboard. Mason Bergh had a hat trick and scored the game-winning goal at 3:44 of the third period that was assisted by Nick Halloran and Zach Berzolla. Tad Kozun had the game’s first goal while Cameron Trott scored the final goal that was not enough to send it into overtime.
No. 1 University of Denver 4, No. 4 Notre Dame 2
No. 1 Denver visited the Compton Family Ice Arena at Notre Dame. The fans laid witness to two former Frozen Four participants, but the national champions, Denver, came out on top with a goal from Liam Finlay that proved to be the decider. Troy Terry was the first to light the lamp at 10:10 of the first period, followed by Jake Durflinger’s marker late in the first frame. Jordan Gross of Notre Dame evened the game on the power play at the 15:08 mark of the second period. This proved to be Notre Dame’s final goal of the night.
No. 5 University of Minnesota-Duluth 0, Bemidji State University 0
What was a higher scoring game the night before resulted in a complete deadlock for the two former WCHA rivals. Bemidji goalie Michael Bitzer made 45 saves on the night compared to Nick Deery’s 27 saves. The goaltender matchup did not allow for any power play goals as Bemidji was 0-for-3 and Duluth was 0-for-5.
No. 12 UMass Lowell 5, Omaha 2
Nebraska-Omaha posted the same exact shots, 26, as UMass Lowell did. Although that was the case, it was Croix Evingson who tallied the all-victorious goal halfway through the second period. UMass Lowell scored three unanswered goals before Omaha was able to get on the board by Mason Morelli’s two goals—one on the power play—at 14:05 and 18:32 of the second period.
No. 8 North Dakota 6, St. Lawrence 1
The Fighting Hawks exploded with 6 goals against St. Lawrence at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Six different players found the back of the net for North Dakota but the game-winning goal came as early as 14:51 of the first period. Christian Wolanin, Shane Gersich, Grant Mismash, Jordan Kawaguchi, Cole Smith and Rhett Gardner were the goal scorers. Jacob Pritchard was the line scorer for St. Lawrence, who did not finish the game with the same goalie. Arthur Grey was pulled in the first period for Daniel Mannella.
No. 15 Clarkson University 4, Western Michigan 2
Western Michigan was on the unfortunate end of the scoring and tonight did not require overtime. Clarkson scored first thanks to Sheldon Rempal’s goal at 2:51 of the first period. Clarkson was not able to maintain a lead just yet due to Western Michigan’s Dawson DiPietro’s power play goal at 2:39 of the second period. He had a goal on Friday night as well.
