A World Juniors gold medalist for Canada, defenseman Cale Makar gave UMass a 1-0 lead just 3:16 into the proceedings. The remaining three goals were scored in the final frame as Lodermeier tied the game at 1-1, John Leonard gave the Minutemen their second lead at 15:22, and O’Donnell forced overtime for the hosts 23 seconds later. Matt Murray made 31 stops for UMass, including 10 in the third period. Leonard and Lodermeier posted a goal and an assist apiece for their sides.
