The defending NCAA champions rallied from down two goals for a 3-3 tie at North Dakota before garnering the extra point in the league standings in overtime Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Dylan Gambrell recorded a goal and assist while Troy Terry scored in regulation and again in overtime to keep DU atop the NCHC standings.

Pioneers goalie Tanner Jaillet finished with 18 saves despite seeing his 131 minutes, four seconds shutout streak end 62 seconds into in the first period on a tally by North Dakota’s Cole Smith. Shane Gersich scored 4:16 later for a two-goal edge UND could not maintain.

“I thought it was probably a C-plus effort from us tonight,” Denver coach Jim Montgomery said in a press release. “In the third period, I thought we started to see Denver hockey. After being down 2-0 in this building, being able to get a tie you’re very happy and then it’s nice to get the extra point which might mean something in the standings.”
