At Mullins Center, the visiting Black Bears scored a second straight 3-2 win and extended their unbeaten streak to five straight games. Chase Pearson scored two of Maine’s goals, including the game-winner at 13:19 of the second period. Emil Westerlund also scored for the victors.
Pearson tallied just 18 seconds into the game, but the Minutemen entered the first intermission in a 1-1 tie as Mitchell Chaffee scored his team-leading 10th goal. Maine’s two-goal run in the middle frame put the game out of reach, although John Leonard brought the home team back within the one-goal score with five minutes to play in regulation.
Jeremy Swayman made 28 stops in the Maine net, including 11 in the third period. Ryan Wischow made 23 for UMass.
