EAST LANSING, Mich. – After falling to Michigan State in the opener of this two-game series, No. 16 Penn State responded by going ahead 3-1 Saturday and holding on for a 3-2 win against the Spartans at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich., to earn the series split.
The Nittany Lions jumped out to their lead thanks to goals from Chase Berger, Andrew Sturtz and Alex Limoges. As Penn State went into the third period ahead 3-1, the Spartans cut the lead to 3-2 thanks to a Patrick Khodorenko goal. Unfortunately for Michigan State, it could not crack Penn State sophomore goaltender Peyton Jones, who made 31 saves in the win.
