The second NCHC game of the night to require more than three periods proved to be a favorable one for Miami, as the RedHawks managed to garner an extra point on a breakaway goal by Kiefer Sherwood in the three-on-three OT. The Steve Cady Arena, with an attendance of 2,917, had to first withness a North Dakota rally from two goals down. Nick Jones scored at 7:20 of the third period on a power play to tie the game at two. Helpers were credited to Colton Poolman and Grant Mismash. It was Hayden Shaw who started the rally for UND at 4:20 of the third when he and Zach Yon combined to score. The rally started after a Miami goal just 26 seconds into the third period when Sherwood made the score 2-0 on assists from Carter Johnson and Gordie Green. Josh Melnick, unassisted and short-handed at 4:23 of the second period, converted the first goal of the night. Cam Johnson made 25 saves and Ryan Larkin made 28 saves for Miami.
