Channing Boe’s goal 2:32 into overtime lifted Minnesota State over Bemidji State, 2-1, in a WCHA game Friday at the Verizon Wireless Center.<\/p>\n
The puck came loose to Channing Boe at the point with the Mavericks on the attack midway through overtime. Boe fired a big slapshot high past Bakkala for his sixth goal of the season.<\/p>\n
Bakkala kept BSU in the game while his team was badly outshot, finishing with 41 saves. The Mavericks outshot the Beavers 16-2 in the first period.<\/p>\n
That’s when Ben Youds put MSU on the board at the 13:19 mark of the period on a drop pass from Tyler Elbrecht. Youds’s shot went off the near-side post and in.<\/p>\n
The second period went scoreless as MSU stuck to a one-goal for most of the third period but the Beavers finally tied the game when Jordan George backhanded the rebound past MSU goaltender Phil Cook with 2:35 remaining in regulation. Cook coughed up a rebound from Amil Billberg’s shot from the left side.<\/p>\n
Cook finished with 18 saves for the Mavericks.<\/p>\n
Neither team scored a power play goal. MSU had four opportunities and BSU had two. Matt Carlson received a five-minute major for checking from behind and a 10-minute game misconduct with 7:32 left in the third period.<\/p>\n
