Middlebury used one goal in each period on its way to a 3-0 blanking of Potsdam for the championship of the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Panthers have now outscored their four opponents 22-0 this season with a perfect 4-0 record. Middlebury becomes the third host team to win the three-year old tournament, with Plattsburgh winning in 1999 and Norwich winning in 1998.<\/p>\n

After 18 minutes, 51 seconds of scoreless action, Matt Dunn put home his own rebound just outside the crease to give Middlebury a 1-0 lead. The Panthers took a 2-0 lead with only seven seconds left in the second period. Fertig intercepted a pass at the blue line before entering the zone and ripping home a slapshot from the left wing. <\/p>\n

Middlebury increased the lead to 3-0 in the third period when Dunn scored his second of the game with a shot to the five hole from inside the blue line.<\/p>\n

Marc Scheuer made 10 saves in goal for Middlebury for his second shutout in as many career starts. Ryan Venturelli made 26 saves for Potsdam.<\/p>\n
