Sacred Heart received goals from five different players and goalie Eddy Ferhi stopped 35 shots in the Pioneers’ 5-2 victory over Army at sold-out Tate Rink Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Leading 2-1 midway through the second period, Sacred Heart’s Mike Reagan scored on the power play, and early in the third period Chuck Metcalfe one-timed a feed from Les Hrapchack to open up a three-goal lead. <\/p>\n

Army cut it to 4-2 on Mike Fairman’s team-leading 14th goal of the season, but Peter McRae iced it with a shorthanded, empty-net goal with 8.7 seconds to play.<\/p>\n

Army outshot the Pioneers 37-27, including 15-7 in the third period, but Ferhi was solid in beating the Black Knights for the second time this season. <\/p>\n

Paul Sposito and Martin Paquet scored in the first period to give Sacred Heart a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Nic Serre cut it to 2-1 with a breakaway goal at 3:38 of the second period. Defenseman Eric Joyce angled a pass off the boards to a wide open Serre, who raced in and wristed a shot just under the crossbar. <\/p>\n

Paquet had a goal and an assist before leaving the game with an injury at 6:53 of the third period. McRae also had a goal and an assist, while Lloyd Tennant had two assists. Army’s Tim Fisher was credited with an assist on Fairman’s goal, extending is point-scoring streak to six games.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart had only three power-play tries but scored on two of them, while Army was 1-for-7 with a man advantage. Scott Hamilton made 22 saves for the Black Knights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
