MINNEAPOLIS<\/b> — Grant Besse scored twice and Matt Jurusik made 32 saves as Wisconsin held off No. 19 Minnesota 4-3 on Friday.<\/p>\n
The Gophers had a last-minute Tommy Novak goal overturned on replay when officials ruled that Vinni Lettieri was offside on the zone entry.<\/p>\n
Minnesota missed a chance to clinch the Big Ten regular season championship and saw its lead over Michigan shrink to one point with one game remaining.<\/p>\n
Jedd Soleway, Luke Kunin and Besse scored as the Badgers opened a 3-1 lead after two periods.<\/p>\n
Lettieri cut the Gophers’ deficit to one with a third-period goal before Besse scored into an empty net.<\/p>\n
Novak scored with 52.4 seconds left and initially was ruled to have tied the game with five seconds on the clock, but officials waved it off after review.<\/p>\n
“For the criteria leading to a goal, we have the ability to review an offsides,” referee Colin Kronforst told a pool reporter after the game. “Obviously that leads directly to a goal. Both Marco [Hunt] and myself initiated the review and there was conclusive video evidence obviously that he was offside.”<\/p>\n
After winning just one of its first 17 Big Ten games, Wisconsin (8-17-8, 3-12-4-2 Big Ten) has won two in a row. The Badgers, who lost both home games to Minnesota this season by a combined score of 13-2, also beat Penn State last Saturday.<\/p>\n
Eric Schierhorn made 19 saves for Minnesota (18-16, 13-6), which has lost two straight.<\/p>\n
