Junior forward Brian Herbert had a goal and an assist, including his 100th career point, and freshman Jamie Holden stopped 26 shots to earn his first career shutout in Quinnipiac’s 5-0 win over UConn Friday night.

Herbert became the 17th player in school history to reach the 100-point mark, and the first to attain that plateau exclusively in Division I play, with the two-point night. Holden improved to 4-0 this year and posted the team’s first shutout in nearly a year.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at the 6:23 mark of the first frame. Craig Falite worked the puck out of the left-wing corner and found a wide-open Brandon Schmitt in the slot, who snapped a wrister past Artie Imbriano for the eventual game-winner.

The Braves made it 2-0 on a tally by Herbert at 9:16, a snapper from the left circle. Ryan Olson assisted on the goal, marking the 99th point of his career.

Matt Craig tacked on a third goal on the power play at 3:18 of the middle frame, walking out in front from behind the UConn cage and firing a shot home.

Chris White’s goal at 16:20 of the third came off a UConn turnover in its own end. The freshman gloved down a clearing attempt and lofted home a shot from the high slot.

Todd Bennett added an empty-netter with 58 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.

The Braves improved to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the MAAC with the win. UConn fell to 1-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the MAAC.
