Bowdoin snapped a two-game losing streak with a lopsided 8-2 win over visiting Amherst on Friday night. The Polar Bears, the last unbeaten team in the nation prior to the streak, improved to 17-2-3 (14-1-3 NESCAC) on the year, while Amherst fell to 6-12-5 (6-8-4 NESCAC).

The Polar Bears opened the scoring 11:28 into the first period when Albert Mayer took a pass just outside the blue line, raced into the zone and beat Amherst’s Justin Jagher with a wrist shot.

The Bears then went up by a pair at 14:27 when Sean Starke one-timed a Mike Carosi centering pass for a 2-0 lead. Bowdoin took a 3-0 edge inside the final minute of the opening period with Starke netting his second goal of the game.

The second stanza brought more of the same, with Bill Busch taking a Carosi and flipping home a backhanded score. The Bears went up by five at 13:07 in the second when Andy McNerney beat Jagher, and added another goal just under a minute later at 13:53, when Chad Hart blasted a blue-line slapshot.

Dave Moore got Amherst on the board at 2:07 in the final period, when he bested Mike Healey to cut Amherst’s deficit to 6-1. With 12:11 remaining in regulation Amherst scored again, with Scott Aldrich finding the back of the net.

Bowdoin answered with two more goals at 16:22 and 19:19, however, with Michael Stevens and Marty Brisebois cracking the scoring column and securing a 8-2 victory for the Bears. Healey posted 21 saves in the win, while Jagher finished with 29.
