Minnesota coach Don Lucia will earn one of the five highest salaries among college hockey coaches under a contract extension that carries through 2009, the Star Tribune<\/i> of Minneapolis reported.<\/p>\n
Lucia, who coached the Gophers to the national title in 2002, will make a base salary of $150,000 this season and earn more each subsequent season. He is scheduled to make $200,000 a year by the end of the contract, plus incentives and income from camps and other arrangements, the newspaper reported in Wednesday’s editions.<\/p>\n
This season was the fourth of a six-year deal he signed when he became the Gophers’ coach in 1999. The Star Tribune<\/i> reported Lucia and former Minnesota athletics director Tom Moe started talks on an extension this summer, and they carried over when Joel Maturi took over as AD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
