Also, John Harrington, head coach at Division III St. John&#8217;s (Minn.) is not a candidate and is not interested in the position.<\/p>\n<p>There continues to be conflicting reports about the status of former Lake Superior State coach Jeff Jackson. The Albany-Times Union continues to report him as a candidate, while other published reports indicate that Jackson has not been contacted and is not interested.<\/p>\n<p>The candidate pool, therefore, likely remains as a variety of current and past Union assistant coaches. Former Union assistants Kevin Patrick (now at Bowling Green) and John Micheletto (now at Notre Dame) are considered leading candidates, as are current assistants Andrew Will and Greg Klym.<\/p>\n<p>David Quinn &#8211; a Boston University graduate, the head coach of the U.S. Under-17 team and a finalist for the Vermont opening &#8211; was never a candidate. Sources indicated the Union athletic director Val Belmonte liked Quinn, but feared he would jump ship for a Hockey East school at the first chance.
