Mercyhurst senior center Teresa Marchese won a pair of major awards as well as being named to the All-College Hockey America first team at the conference awards banquet this evening.

Marchese, who was a unanimous first-team choice, has established a CHA record for single-season assists, with 29, and ranks second on the league’s scoring chart with 47 points on the season. A first-team All-CHA pick last year as well, she also earned the Lakers’ Easton Hockey Three Star Award, given to the player from each league team accumulating the most points for being named one of the three stars of the game during the conference season. Marchese was also named the CHA Easton Hockey Three Star player of the year for compiling the most three-star points among all CHA players.

Also claiming multiple awards was Niagara freshman forward Ashley Riggs, a unanimous pick to both the All-CHA first team, CHA all-rookie team and as the league’s rookie of the year. Riggs leads the league with 49 points heading into this weekend’s conference tournament and has established a CHA record with 28 goals on the season. She was also the Purple Eagles’ Easton Hockey Three Star Award winner.

Mercyhurst senior goalie Desi Clark was named the CHA student-athlete of the year as well as earning first-team All-CHA honors. Her second consecutive first-team all-league honor comes on the heels of a regular season in which she has led the nation in goals against average, allowing just 1.14 per game.

For the second time in three seasons, Mercyhurst head coach Mike Sisti earned CHA coach of the year honors. Ranked seventh nationally, the Lakers have won at least 25 games overall in each of their three seasons in the CHA. Sisti has compiled a 138-50-11 record in his six seasons behind the Mercyhurst bench, leading his charges to three consecutive regular-season league titles and the last two conference tournament championships. Marchese and Clark were two of four players from regular-season champion Mercyhurst to earn first team All-CHA accolades.

They were joined on the first team by sophomore defensemen Ashley Pendleton and Michelle Bonello, both of whom were named to the CHA all-rookie team last season. The duo finished second and third, respectively, among league defensemen in scoring. Pendleton tallied four goals and 17 points during the regular season for the seventh-ranked Lakers while Bonello had four goals and 15 points.

The remaining first-team All-CHA choice was Wayne State senior forward Kelly Zamora, who received the first year-end league award of her career. She has established team records for assists (18) and points (29) this season while leading the Warriors 6-6-0 record and 12 points in conference play, their best-ever finish.

Three Niagara Purple Eagles make up half of the All-CHA second team, including a pair of rookies. The trio was led by senior forward Candice Moxley, who talied 10 goals and 20 points during the regular season while leading Niagara to a second-place finish in the league standings.

She was joined by freshman defenseman Shannon Moulson, who leads CHA rookie blueliners with nine goals and 21 points, and freshman goalie Nikki Rudy, who’s .930 save percentage ranks fourth nationally as is tops among the nation’s freshmen netminders.

Mercyhurst had a pair of second-team selections in junior forward Samantha Shirley and sophomore forward Stefanie Bourbeau. A first-team All-CHA pick last year and the league’s rookie of the year in 2003, Shirley was third in the league during the regular season with 32 points, tallying 16 goals and 16 assists. Bourbeau ranks sixth on the league’s scoring chart, tallying 26 points. She’s tied for second in the league with five gamewinning goals.

Rounding out the All-CHA second team was Wayne State junior defenseman Sarah Campbell, who transferred from Quinnipiac last summer. She led all CHA defensemen with 14 assists during the regular season to rank fourth among league blueliners in scoring.

The league’s all-rookie team feature a pair of unanimous selections in Riggs and Mercyhurst freshman forward Stephanie Jones. A two-time CHA rookie of the week, Jones was third among freshman with 21 points during the regular season.

Niagara had four of the six all-rookie selections, led by Riggs and Rudy. Also earning all-rookie recognition were freshman forward Charde Hoyle-Levy and freshman defenseman Shannon Moulson. Hoyle-Levy was second among league rookies with 14 assists and 23 points while Moulson, who finished the regular season third among all CHA freshmen in scoring, is the league’s leader among defensemen with nine goals and 23 points.

The final member of the all-rookie team was Quinnipiac freshman defenseman Karrah Stephen. The only Bobcat player to be selected by league coaches for an award, Stephen tallied 12 points in the regular season to rank fifth among CHA defensemen in scoring.
