Longtime Bemidji State assistant coach Bert Gilling has been hired as head coach at Mount Royal University in Calgary.<\/p>\n
Gilling had been an assistant with the Beavers for the past 15 years.<\/p>\n
“On behalf of my family, I’d like to say my time in Bemidji, at the university and most importantly, with the Beaver hockey program, have been nothing short of amazing,” Gilling said in a press release. “I consider myself lucky to have learned from, contribute to, and be a part of a program with such a great tradition and a tremendous future. My experiences here have allowed me to grow into the opportunity we’ve been given at Mount Royal University and I have the utmost appreciation for [BSU head coach] Tom Serratore, our team, and our alumni for that.<\/p>\n
“Beaver hockey will be a part of me forever.”<\/p>\n
“Bert has been a big part of Bemidji State’s success at the Division I level,” added Serratore. “He will be missed here at Bemidji State, but he’s ready to be a head coach and I could not be more pleased he is going to get that opportunity.”<\/p>\n
At Bemidji State, Gilling had a number of responsibilities, including game preparation, practice sessions and video breakdown and also served as the team’s bench and defensive coach. His duties also included recruiting, academic advising and strength and conditioning. <\/p>\n
As a player, Gilling was a four-year letter winner at Minnesota-Duluth from 1995 to 1999.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
