Aaron Herdt of Concordia scored twice in Friday’s win. (Concordia Athletics)

Augsburg had quite a weekend. The ninth-ranked Auggies snapped an eight-game losing streak to No. 3 St. Norbert Friday night with a thrilling 6-5 overtime win and skated to a 3-3 tie against the reigning national champions Saturday.

The Auggies’ win on Friday is the first over the Green Knights since November 2005. They lead the all-time series 11-10-2.

Alex Rodriguez delivered the game-winning goal Friday less than a minute into OT. It was one of two goals he scored on the night as the Auggies improved to 9-1-2 overall. Rodriguez now has 12 goals on the season, the most in the MIAC and the second-most in the nation.

Augsburg scored three goals in the second to take a 5-2 lead, including one by Patrick O’Connor, who scored the first goal of his collegiate career.

Nick Schmit got the job done in goal, making 38 saves.

Dominick Sacco scored twice in Friday’s game, including a goal that tied the score at 5-5. T.J. Black made 26 saves.

On Saturday, Luke Dietsch scored twice to pace Augsburg, which trailed 3-2 going into the final period of play. Schmit made 35 saves. He’s 5-0-2 on the season.

Riley Christensen, Roman Uchyn, and Peter Bates all scored for St. Norbert. Ryan Bontorin came through with 38 saves.

Cobbers sweep Pipers

Concordia is one of the hottest teams in the country. The Cobbers completed a sweep of Hamline Saturday with a 5-1 win. They defeated the Pipers 7-0 on Friday in the series opener. With the two wins, Concordia stretched its unbeaten streak to eight games. It has won its last six games and is 9-2-2 overall and 5-0-1 in MIAC play.

The nine wins are the most in school history heading into the Christmas break. Concordia won eight games prior to Christmas in 2013 and 1980.

Aaron Herdt scored a goal and also dished out an assist. He now has 12 goals on the season to go along with his nine assists. His goal at the 1:25 mark of the second period was his fifth game winner of the year. He has scored the game-winning goal in five consecutive games.

Jacob Stephan did his part between the pipes, stopping 34 shots. He has allowed two goals or less in four of his last five starts and his 1.55 goals-against average is the fifth-best in the nation in NCAA Division III.

Saints go marching on

St. Scholastica stretched its unbeaten streak to nine games Saturday with a 4-1 win over Saint John’s. The Saints are 8-1-1 on the year. The 15th-ranked Saints still haven’t trailed in a game this year, and Cole Golka led the way with a pair of goals. His point streak is now at four games.

Kyle Star and Nolan Ross scored goals as well. Ross’ goal was his first of the year.

Jordan Fralich was sensational as a playmaker, dishing out four assists. Carson Rose added two assists.

Nick Trenciansky came up with 30 saves as the Saints won their sixth consecutive game. St. Scholastica hasn’t given up more than two goals in a game in its last three outings.

Pointers still perfect

Wisconsin-Stevens Point is still unbeaten after closing out the weekend with a 4-2 win over Lake Forest College Saturday.

The top-ranked team in the nation used two goals from Brennen Miller to get the job done. The Pointers led 3-0 after the first period and never looked back.

Carter Roo and Zach Zech also scored, while Austin Kelly dished out a pair of assists. Drew McLean also tallied two assists in the win as the Pointers improved to 12-0-2.

Connor Ryckman tallied 18 saves for his 12th win.

Falcons salvage split

Wisconsin-River Falls bounced back with a 5-1 win over Lawrence on Saturday. The Falcons lost 3-0 to the Vikings on Friday night.

Wis.-River Falls scored three goals in the third period to nail down the win.

Eddie Matsushima and Aussie Miller each scored a goal and an assist. Joe Marcouiller came through with the win in goal, stopping 24 shots. The Falcons improved to 5-4-3 on the year.

On Friday, Evan Cline recorded the first shutout of his career to propel Lawrence to the win. It’s the third shutout of his career. Cline made 30 saves.

Stephen Zabrowski came through with the first multi-goal game of his career to pace the Vikings, who are now 4-9 on the season. Jordan Boehlke scored the other goal.
