Look out for the Owls from Westfield State. Picked to finish near the bottom in the MASCAC, Bob Miele’s club is off to one of its best starts in program history with a 4-0-0 record. The Owls notched a huge 3-2 overtime victory this week over the defending MASCAC champs, Plymouth State, and look to continue their hot start Thursday night.
Now we get into the exciting part of the season: conference play. This should be an exciting two days, as we get to see who has an early advantage in the conference.

I went 2-1 last week, my best weekly record to date so far, but now as we enter MASCAC play, let’s see how I really do.

Let’s look at the picks:

Thursday, November 15

Salem Sate Vikings (1-1-0) at Fitchburg Sate Falcons (1-2-1)

The Falcons take on Salem State, which has yet to play a conference game. Salem State is coming off a tough 3-2 loss to Wentworth, while Fitchburg grabbed its first win last Tuesday after defeating Framingham State, 8-3. Salem State packs more punch up front, but this should be a solid goaltending battle. Vikings a bit too much, though. Salem State 4-2

Westfield State Owls (4-0-0) at Worcester State Lancers (0-4-0)

Don’t read into the record too much in this game. As mentioned before, the Owls are off to one of their best starts in program history, while the Lancers are struggling out of the gate. The Lancers dropped a close one to Mass.-Dartmouth, 3-2, Tuesday, and may turn it around in this one. Westfield has too much confidence and has been successful in close games (last two wins are by one goal). Owls still perfect. Westfield State 5-4

Saturday, November 17

Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs (1-1-1) at Salem State Vikings

The Corsairs rebounded nicely after losing their opener to Mass.-Boston, with a 3-2 win over Worcester. It looks like the offense for Mass.-Dartmouth is turning it around, with seven tallies in two games. Both teams are solid from the net out. It should be a fun atmosphere. Salem holds the fort at home. Salem State 3-2

Fitchburg State Falcons at Worcester State Lancers

I may be going out on a limb here, but I think Worcester rights the ship with a home victory over Fitchburg. The Lancers need this game, and come out strong over a Falcons team that played a tough one against Salem. Worcester State 5-3 (EN)
